It's a perfect way to find great deals on holiday gifts, but you'll have to take advantage of the promotion's active hours, as they don't accumulate. Advent calendars originated as a 19th-century tradition in Germany, where children lit a candle for each day of Advent. It began on Advent Sunday and continued until Christmas Eve, which often falls in November. Nowadays, it starts on December 1st and is a way to count down the days until Christmas.
