Breast Cancer: We donated the proceeds from the Leonor dress
Today, October 19, 2018, is World Breast Cancer Day. It's a disease we all fear. Any one of us could receive life-changing news. Fortunately, cure rates have increased significantly, and it's possible to beat this little bugger. At Mariquita Trasquilá, in collaboration with Marta in Brazil , as you know and as we mentioned in the post "We're all pink, Mariquita joins the fight against cancer ," we committed to helping in this fight that has touched us so deeply, and finally, it's a reality. Last week, the Trebujena Cancer Association (ACCT) and its president, Pepa Cancela, who, by the way, looked spectacular in the Leonor dress, organized a beautiful and moving event. This is the third consecutive year they've held this event, which took place in Trebujena itself.
The ACCT event
It began with a few words from Pepa about how we should address someone going through this illness. Pepa told us about the lack of discretion some people show when discussing the topic and how it affects the mood of those suffering from it. She then introduced a presentation by Idelfonsa Sánchez Caro, a dietitian-nutritionist from Trebujena, who explained how to eat to prevent the disease. Lifestyles have changed a lot; we've adopted harmful habits. The food technologist explained that we now eat more processed products, use a lot of packaging, and cook less. Idelfonsa emphasized the importance of going back 40 years, to when we ate more natural products, fruits, vegetables, and stews.

Finally, the presentation of certificates of appreciation from ACCT, the moment we had been most eagerly awaiting, the moment to present our €2,000 donation. This amount was raised thanks to sales of the Leonor dress. It symbolizes our company's commitment and, of course, the commitment of all of you who contributed by purchasing the Leonor model . The entire Mariquita Trasquilá team accompanied Milagros to collect the certificate and present the check to Pepa. Milagros addressed the audience, explaining how the idea of collaborating with Marta in Brazil in the fight against cancer came about. She also emphasized the time they dedicated to contacting various organizations until they found Pepa and ACCT. The work she does with the association in the fight against cancer is truly fascinating. With each event, they aim to raise funds that will go to the Biomedical Research Foundation of Cádiz, located at the Puerta del Mar Hospital. The entire Mariquita Trasquilá team hopes this has been the beginning of a new chapter. To that end, we have committed to continuing our collaboration in 2019, so... STAY TUNED!
